I've said it before, but I'll say it again, some of his metalwork is really beautiful. I hope he posts a picture of the finished crib, because even in this "in-progress" state it looks like it is going to be special.
HiS talents in fabbing metal are Epic in that art of being stunning. IMHO it is a vehicle to inspire a new generation of enthusiasts to take up the trade of forming metal into sculpture.
A trade that is withering away because we've become the age of building with petro-chemicals.
First time parents lol. I hand gauged out a high chair when my first was on the way. I sure hope he comes up with some roll bar padding for that top rail that us parents know end up getting bumped and chewed on. Its cool work, nice conversation piece, but looks more like a prison cell than a baby bed. Nice to see OCC iron works is still going strong.

by the way, I am not the only one showing concern since he went on his facebook and addressed concerned of experienced parents with he knows what he is doing and its his kid.
concern worded wrongly.

my point was just so many not parents think they know better than parents, and a wrought iron crib is something a parent would not think about building. I guess if he goes with a white powdercoat it wont look as much like a prison.

First thing that comes to mind is Steampunk. Great Craftsmanship and all but definitely out of place in a nursery for a new born. Rick needs to start thinking delicate soft and safe. Not that I'm part of the helmet and pads on every time a kid steps out crowd but that thing looks downright medieval dungeonesqe...

I would think that he plans to powder coat it in some light pastel color, and that by the time they add the padding, it should look most inviting. The crib's construction (totally welded) will yield a higher degree of safety than a crib with collapsible sides, which is where most of the problems with commercial designs have failed.

......at least it's not built in China!
Can't go to wrong with something made in the great state of PA... Only way it could get better is a little Blue & White the of the Nittany Lion theme to it. Or some Yellow 'n Gold for the Steeler in the Steel
I'm sure that picture is "in process" and it will get babied up before the kid arrives. Honestly, like all new parents, they need to figure some things out by themselves even if their are millions of couples who have been there before. I can't snark, not only is the actual metalwork beautiful, it's always great to see a first time parent so excited and building and making things for the impending arrival.
I'm sure in a way it's a symbolic jesture he making to put his mind in a comfortable place. I did the same thing myself for my nephew. they made at the time Lionel trains screen printed fabrics an made a blankie for him.
I like the design but I wonder if it is practical. It would be fine for a newborn because they don't move around a lot. However, kids usually stay in a crib for some time and they tend to fall. That steel will NOT be too easy on the noggin. Sure they will have crib bunting but it don't come all the way up the crib walls. And if they have to put the bunting all the way up it will take away from the design; but I hope the kid comes first. When Rick originally started at OCC the OCC web page gave stats on the Teutels and all their employees. It was listed that Rick had a daughter. I wonder if this was a mistake or what...
he took some concerns of actual parents that had children bump their heads on wooden cribs as insulting on his facebook page. I get so sick of know it all kids with no children thinking they have all the answers.
it seems there is gonna be so much padding on the crib you will hardly see the steel anyway.
