The're sheeple. If you actually read some of the post to the commentary areas, people believe that F'n L might actually come to then an restore their ride, or the the crew might want to buy their projects. I seen one where the post was offering them a Plymouth Horizon with very little miles on it to give the Gas Monkey treatment.
Some even believe that the show is the goings on of a "Actuall working shop". Man.... You wonder what kind of subliminal mind programming that Discovery must do to keep the sheeple enthused into this program.
"Some even believe that the show is the goings on of a "Actual working shop". "
After reading, and viewing the exploits of Richard Rawlings' adventures with the Gumball Rally (over several years), it became quite evident that the premise for the show was totally contrived. One must also add the lack of customer-owned vehicles in a shop which is billed as a "garage" into the formula: BS + (rich kid who wears pouch enhancing underwear x pseudo Amish mechanic) ÷ poorly conceived business model + poor taste + (drama x pi** poor acting) = Fast 'N Loud
You're right Mope, it just doesn't add up; however, A.I. is right, too, in his observation that at least we get to see some amount of fabrication woven in between the drama and atrocious (and often profitless) end result.
One thing that "sets off the a-hole alarm" is the references that Rawlings has made concerning "that sale helped us to meet payroll this week". Lets face it, there's a ton of production company money flowing around the principals, and most likely the ancillary staff. If they were having problems meeting payroll, they wouldn't have butchered that Mark III (still stuck in my craw), and built that green gasser which fizzed while still on the assembly line.

Still bites my ass also, as a Lincoln Mark Luver. Man I would give up my first bourne and my soul for a Mark III or Mark IV or even a Mark V or VI though by that time it was a overbloated crown Vic/Marquis 2dr by the earrly 80's. The Vii or Mark 8's are the true defination of Luxury and HP. I miss my Aubergine 93 but my beat-up white mark has been a faithfull ole girl to me, so I can't complain. Plus having 290 + ponies under the hood always puts the smile on the face.
funny, I didnt think richard paid a dime for the ferrari...he is covering parts and labor only. Dennis paid the 400k.
These guys get **** on more than paul jr, when they are pretty much the same.
When it come down to it... These drama queens do less work than the Teutuls did during the time the fame had gone to their head.
you really think so? seems to me richard and aaron spend more time finding the cars and trusting their mechanics to do the work. Controlling every bend or weld to say its their design and doing promotional work the rest of the time wasnt building anything but their name. Never once do you hear its an aaron or richard design, its a gas monkey garage build.

I've put more work into repairs on my Mark VIII then Rawlings has. I've replaced or rebuilt the alternator two times. Never once have I see those pretty boy hands get smudged working on a car.

I dont know what your problem with richard is, he is the money guy that clearly states he is gonna go drink beer while his guys work on the cars. Knowing his place is what makes him productive and staying out of the way of mechanics is good business if you are just gonna go distract them.
Its not even comparable to occ. Rick, we have 550 into the fabrication of the gas tank, we bill you out at 105.00 an hour, so you have 5 hours or so to fabricate, tack and finish weld a gas tank. all repairs have numbers attached to them, parts and per hour labor, thats how you make money. If your fabricators take twice as long you either gotta lose money on that part of the build or hold the car til someone gives you an inflated price. Richard sees thousands of sales a year and have an idea of what going prices for cars are, and wont spend 2 hours rebuilding an alternator if there is one available for 75.00 and if you search for your Mark VIII on the internet you will see how much you can put into them to make money.

i DON'T HATE ANYONE. HATE the show. Hate everything about it, except maybe the idear of finding the cars an making the deal. Same concept different character. Woud love the show, Counting Cars. Love it. Desert Car kings, LOVED IT. Chasing Classic car. Liked it. Texas Car Wars, If was good, shoud've been renewed. Carfellas, Liked it was interesting. South Beach Classics, didn't like the owner but loved the cars. King of Cars. LOVED THAT. Chopper is the King. Car Czar with Alan Lewenthal an Marquis Auto Restorations. If he was anyone I'd trust a F-40 to restore right, he'd be it. He is a Coniseur of Ladies in Red. RARE Ladies IN RED. Mutli-Million Dollar Ladies in RED.
richard Rawlings is the Dave Heister of the car programs. He the D-bag wrestler you always want to fail, because he is so full of bull puckey.
I would have liked to have seen Josh Rodriguez from Texas Car Wars receive his own show, as his was the one shop which performed work in such a way that they didn't destroy the ability to restore the car to original, or close to original specs.
The same production company which does "Shipping Wars" must have done that show also, because the "bad mouthing" of other contestants between segments was too similar a trademark to be coincidental, and would have been litigated if another producer "borrowed" their forté.
Pamd, you seem to take the tone of alot of people here that feel the goal of these places is to get their own shows. Somehow it seems if we like someone, we should wish they never get a show so they do not change. The thing with Texas Car wars is I really think there is a ton of shade tree mechanic work done on those junkyard finds that would make them questionably safe. At least the gas monkey garage always addresses suspension and brakes first and foremost, repair rust on frames without question, just sometimes leave a clearcoated rust bucket on top.

Oh I don't dismiss some of the shadetree work that was done as rust repair(Mainly on that Ford Wagon), but alot was of the same style that GMG done on some cars. I definately as of yet seen any replacement of rubber bushings tie rod ends, Ball joints or motor mounts. REMEMBER this is equip that is nearly 50-60 yrs old or older an dried or worn out. Springs that have been worn out(THEN CUT). NO WAY i'd drive a car that had cut down springs. I'd get a lowering kit with spindles and all the goodies to PROPERLY lower a car.
Maybe that is why we haven't seen GMG do a MOPAR, since I generally feel that Aaron an the crew have no clue how to work on a torsion bar, isolated K-member suspension. Even if they did, I have as of yet seen them do a 4-wheel alignment after lowering the ride heigth.
I'm sorry. I not trying to rag on them, but it drives me insanely nuts that the've pulled the wool over the sheeple.
