I have a scientist friend who is really into ancient technology. He's turned me on to the Antikythera Mechanism and the Baghdad Battery, among other things. His obsession is proving that because the Sterling Engine is based on the simple difference between cold and heat, which operates pistons in a cylinder (all of which were readily available in the wayback machine), chances are highly likely that some ancient civilization had a version of it.

...and they probably used it to make porn.

In 2000 years, humanity will have either disappeared from the face of the planet, or will have come full-circle, be adorned with animal hide clothing, and will rediscover fire sometime around the year 50.  Humanity is not capable of living with advanced technologies without finding the need to abuse that technology in some way, most often by attempting to destroy a perceived adversary, or inadvertently destroying itself by overlooking a significant factor.

At the rate we're going with the impending "bacterial resistance crisis", we'll be transported back to 1939 within five years. Our resources are misplaced/poorly administrated and used, as their should be a "Manhattan Project" styled effort in finding a way to combat antibiotic/antibacterial medication and prophylaxis resistance.

No less than 10% of patients whom I treat for non-complicated urinary tract infections now require hospital administered (first two doses) intravenous antibiotics, which are also showing signs of decreased effectiveness. In the last year, I have had to surgically address infections of "dermal substructures" three times, when just twelve to fifteen years ago, I could/would have written a script for one of the stronger oral antibiotics/antibacterials.

I consider myself an ardent pessimist when it comes to our combined futures. We have allowed inept politicians to horribly mismanage our future(s) and that/those of our children.

Strange both you to posting about this subject.  I was watching during dialysis a program on history, about early intentions thu-out history, an they showed a replica of a early century version of the theory that the chinese used a fan type device in a chinese paper lamp with shapes that rotated by the heat,, like a sterling engine that they used to portray visual subject like dancing fugures..  One could even venture that is was maybe one of the earliest ways to watch porn... LMAO

confuse

"Ancient Discoveries!" One of my favorite programs, but they only seem to run it in marathons approximately every once in a while. I saw the same show.

Yeah!!  That's what it was...  If they only had the technology whe have now then, I wonder how far evolved or devolved will be if the progression of technology will be in 2000 yrs.

I was watching a program about a story on 3d printing using resins like a inkjet printer.  An a crazy idear clicked in my brainfarted head.  Why couldn't they do that with per sey a persons or some other kind of genetic material that medically build a ??homogentic?? organ or even tissue cells to create replacement parts for the human body...  Who knows that it could be a possiblity in the near furture.

AS FAR AS THE TOTAL destruction of the human race... You have to think that for any of us talking to each other today our genetic dna has survived all kinds of feast or famine or sicknesses an plagues, somehow in some way the human race is bound to survive whether it be good or bad.

Doc, I've tried to write this post approximately umpteen times, but the topic is so important (and my memory so affected by past transgressions) that I decided to take another tack:

In the *"Dan Rather Reports" episode about antibiotic resistance, the producers and editors do a superb job of detailing Norway's approach. It's so comprehensive, I'm not even going to try to lay it out for you, for fear of misrepresenting or forgetting important factors. Besides, I figger you have doctorin' places you can dig for the same info that us mere mortals are oblivious of.

One thing I can tell you is that it depends on educating the public about their responsibilities, and even moreso on educating doctors and pharmacists about theirs. That's just for starters.

* Amazon Prime is a program whereby thousands of products are eligible for free shipping, and thousands of songs, movies, TV shows etc. are available for free download. (The above link is for the DVD-R copy of that particular program, which isn't available on Prime yet.)
