Was looking a pictures of the Build-off bike for 2012.  Was looking at different pics an amazed at the stylistically how he could pull all those elements out of his mind without the aide of any kind of computer to get that kind of beauty an quality of lines an shapes an the flow of that bike...  It's honestly absolutly amazing when you look at it close.

Nubs killed the paint on it by keeping it simple, an the tank, how it seemlessly flows an fits into that grille....  Even looking so close-up the bike looks flawless.

I am honestly amazed as I have never looked at it that closely... I thought it was cool at first, but really deep-down looking at its quality of work amazes..

I want to ask you a question.  Can yoou not possibly look a Paul Jr design, an not see the beauty of the work, or does those beady little eyes only see contempt for Paul Jr, I feel sorry for ya bud, if that is true.   He does that from his imagination, not some computer program made of 1's and 0's.  That takes true talent.

I guess since nothing new is coming out of PJD, Vinnie and Brendan are back at their own shops, we need to harp on more old stuff that the king designed and Vinnie and Brendan built.

Should have expected it......

So with you looking  at the same bike all you can see is who built it.  You give no credit for any part of that design to Paul Jr??  I KNOW who contributed into building it, but at least I can appreciate the thought process into the design thought that went into the bike without the aide of a photoshop paint by numbers like 1's and 0's .

You know how much I hate it when you offer opinions on topics like chopper design, of which I know nothing, or about people I have irrational delusions about like that crackhead ex-son of mine who wouldn't stay fired, even when the Dad I wish I'd had burned him up with my electric flamethrowing snowmobile/recliner.

Even worse, you know I make a sound like a cat hacking up a hairball when you say anything about what a talented designer and builder he is, but what makes me chase my kids with a claw-hammer is seeing pictures like these:

god i hate myself

please don't hit me anymore, daddy

oh no, not that

I guess that with two clicks I was able to find PJD's latest build, but other than one picture of poor Cody being forced to weld and Junior pretending to TIG weld (!) a gas tank (and everybody knows he doesn't know how to fabricate- except him, apparently), I have to assume he's not building a bike, since nobody called me to tell me precisely which parts were built or assembled by whom.

I mean, since I disagree with you on everything not because I know anything about the topic, but just because of who wrote it, it's safe to assume that I can't help but post gibberish about a bike not because of its design, but based solely on who built it. (And how much gas the tank holds.)

I demand you check with me first before posting anything favorable about people I don't like. Got it?

Now, if I can just get this hairball up... GYACKK!

If you want to build a car, build a car. Again, there is a bumper on the back of the front fender. why isnt the bumper on the front of the front fender? What awesome design. Go pull that pic of a 56 whatever back out after jr said it was not designed after one car, but about different things he liked from different eras. Maybe a set of nostalgic curb feelers would have put the build over the top. Brendan did a nice job, too bad they used a reproduction laser cut grill that no street rodder would consider to make it look new. But then go to a flat black paint like a rat rod where guys dont even fix the rusted holes lol.

nice pics of the latest build, looks like it took two weeks to reject a standard stamped gas tank with an easier to weld cornered piece with the last pic taken more than a month ago, they were probably left over from Brendans rejected tanks anyway.... gotta love deadlines lmao.

A bit like Rick and his shop? I wonder who to doing the fab work at OCC these days, Sr? LMAO Opps that's right Sr can't do any fab work or design.

Does it truly have to... I'm sure he could've put a small chrome or nickeled lip around the curve of the front lip to emulate a old style bumper, but does he have to stick to convention thoughts..... Nope.... Am I am fine with the, plus the original hood emblem oranment is plenty enough shiny on the front part of the fender...   Least MOP

Of course! If Senior wanted a horse, he should have had Jason build one instead of sticking a godawful head on an ugly bike and slapping a cheap nylon walmart dog-collar on it! Why didn't I see it before? If Senior wanted a bike with talons on it, why didn't he have Jason crank out a real bird and put wheels on it?

This thread is like one of those weird PSAT questions about "a locomotive is to a barge what a hat is to a ______."

"A work of art is to a talentless hack what an accusation of being a humorist is from someone completely devoid of a sense of humor."

Let's try another:

"A laundry chute is to Jason what a bag of kittens is to _________."

Salvador Dali would have loved this.

BTW, ghostmonkey, I don't know if she accused you of being a Reader's Digest humorist because everybody knows you Aussies read from right to left, but don't believe that stuff about laughter being the best medicine. That's why doctors never joke while giving prostate exams.

It's only funny until someone loses a finger. Think about it.

There are parts of that bike I like, and other parts that to me just don't work.

Plus it's stupidly long. I know Jr likes those, but I don't care for them.

Exactly. Jr could have whittled a bike out of some wood and won that competition. I'm sure there were bike builders all around the world scratching their heads over this bike while trying to figure out why.

But we can always count on hammer for finding a truly unique fender skirt that jr did not design to support his infatuation. Didnt have to be on the front? if you are emulating a car, you really should put the pieces in the right place.

Who was the one honoring the hood ornament that was placed on the front fender lol. hood ornaments go on the hood, which would have made more sense if the ornament was the gas cap.

Lets go to the leather 1/8th steering wheel that you never use unless you are posing for a picture. Bright tan on that wrap and the seat are common to english automobiles, not american muscle.

Even cody said the right thing about this bike, its too easy to make it look like too much. This is an example of too much. Its far too easy to see things that are wrong with that bike, even past the fact of how long the thing is. There is a reason real bike builders dont try to emulate cars, it only turns out well to the oodlers, the rest of the people see how bad it really is.

As far as jr bikes he built at OCC that I like, they were short, stretched low with the same backbone that looked fast standing still. It seems he is going out of his way to never build another one like that because it would give too much credit to OCC and dad and not give enough places to stick his logo.

No, I absolutely accused you of being the reader's digest humorist, Rumple. I'm pretty sure that was clear to everyone except you. And anyone who wasn't sure would only have to read your last two posts in this thread to have the light bulb go off above their heads. It's the point of being so not funny that it just becomes sad.

LOL, you guys bite

at everything.... Just realized mopar gave credit for paulie copying large metal objects without the help of a computer.

Its ok to copy a 1930- 1956 hodge podge of cars without a computer, they didnt have computers to design the originals.

LOL

My accused hate of jr's team of allstars is less than your hate of sr and jason designs.

maybe they will copy overhaulin for a new show, jr could bring his all stars, vinnie and brendan and his long list of sub contractors, and a team of bike builders can compete building a bike in 6 months.

That's a late 1940's era Indian Chief Roadmaster (that's a brand of motorcycle).

indian-chief-1947_unrest.jpg

Paulie is such a great designer, he could even invent the idea of an ornament on a motorcycle's front fender - BEFORE HE WAS BORN!

(Even Chuck Norris couldn't do that!)

I don't hate Senior or Jason.  I revel in them.  I revel in the fact that between to two, they've taken a florishing business and within a few years of firing their lead designer have flushed it down the toilet.gif.  But that is another story.  I commend many of Senior ol'school specials, for period-style bikes they look quite well.  But when it comes to build a bike by ones and zeros, that is where he relies on Jason and his paint or design by numbers.

Jason has plenty of technical talent, an so does Jim Quinn, but Rick or another of the build staff need to stand up an speak out when a design or theme goes out of control.

But what is Vinnie doing at the shop, ones and zeros right, program the part in the waterjet or cnc mill? All OCC does is start with a picture so the machining program is already finished. Its done when the drawing is done, set X and Y at the edge of the part and it cuts. Thats what the point is, have a monkey in the computer room doing that and the million dollar machines are running parts, not sitting idle while a program is being typed in. Thats business today. Jr might have an idea, but a part made by vinnie on an nc (numerical controlled) machine is the designer of the part. I kinda want the gas tank to flare up and then back, indent the sides, who is the designer other than Brendan? Its not the overall design, its taking credit for all aspects of it, even when its a part some subcontractor got a rough sketch or idea of that produced the finished product.

Vinnie has a mouth an would certainly speak up if he was being treated in any way that he didn't feel respected for his talents.  More than ever possible by elder teutul.

Mo it's a lost cause mate. The only person to treat Vinnie bad was good old Sr.

What has been neglected to be said is that OCC as a company made piles of cash off of Vinnie's appearances, likeness, merchandising (a couple of T-shirts, a book, and coloring books), in addition to having a very mechanically adept individual on hand to bail them out of messes. The only complaint that I've ever heard about Vinnie's workmanship was with the Jay Leno Brough Superior bike, and the fact that the tail/brake lights were fused on the same line as the electronic ignition, causing frequent emergency trips by Jay's 1941 American La France fire engine/converted to a motorcycle rescue unit, to fetch the thing back to the shop.

I wonder if Jay still has that bike??

If you ask me, Vinnie was more popular than Junior, and second only to Mikey.  While it is true, that Paul Senior's "bringing him into the fold" launched his career, Vinnie's perseverance, screen presence, and outright skill is the reason for his success.  Surely, Mike Ammirati doesn't have a fan base even approaching that of Vinnie, and he was given the very same "gift", if not more, by Senior.

I know... But I get a little kick out of him fighting with all his abilities to deny that PJr had anything to do with the development of O.C.C..  Kinda admire it in a way, but I can also say it's getting a little old that he can't give Paul Jr or the team any level of respect for what they accomplished while they where are O.C.C.

The simple fact that without Jr there would of never been a show means nothing to him. Just imagine if Jason was Sr's son, would they have got a show? No way. As doc said as well the show got so popular not just cause of the tuetels but because of Vinnie and Rick. Even OCC fans wish Jason never worked there.

Jason has a good use, till the green eye of envy, an his ego went to his head like Senior.  The fame the overwhelmed the 4-horsemen, is what drove the wedge in rh family dynamic.  When Jason was used to transfer Junior visual idears in 2-d renederings, that helped speed the build times, as it took constantly checking with one to to see if accentuated the bike.  But then Jason felt that he was negleted in the situation, an Senior saw that he could take one designing diva out of the equation.

But as proof can see you can't design from paint by numbers or designing by Ones and Zeros.

As far a Jason Pohl goes, it had gotten to the point that there were so many negative comments on their Facebook page, that it had to be taken down, and totally redone - just to remove the negative commentary about him.  For weeks after the conclusion of the show, just about every post, on both the Discovery and OCC Facebook pages stated "Fire Jason", or something to that effect.

That said, it can't be comfortable to be in Jason's shoes, and I give Senior credit for continuing to support him.

I'm also glad that Ammirati decided to tone down the negativity regarding Junior.  Much of the angst relating to PJD fandom's perception of the employees of OCC stems from the non-stop negative commentary, with Rick Petko being the only employee who chose neutrality, wisely, I may add.

I guess it's over now, I doubt the show will be resurrected for a third shot, and we all have to admit that the series had pretty much run it's course (in that configuration). Discovery, however, seems to still be receiving a lot of flack for it's choice to cancel both American Chopper, and Dirty Jobs. Especially when A/C was replaced by a show the likes of Fast and Loud. The cancellation of Dirty Jobs still puzzles me, because it's popularity did not wain.

With three of the show's secondary characters setting up shops in their respective localities, it's a fairly safe bet that we'll be seeing at least one of them hosting their own TV show, and this will happen before year's end.  I'll bet a $20.00 on it....

Maybe you see me not giving jr any credit, while the rest of you hardly give credit to the guys actually building the bikes off idears in jrs head. No sketches, not diagrams, no pictures, just some hand signals and adjectives. Dont even start with the actually people designing the frames he is using, the wheels, any other purchased custom parts.

I speak from reality, you post from your jr spank bank. Please dont feel for me when you should be feeling for yourself

I agree with most of what you say, except the part of setting up shops. Vinnie Rick and Brendan left their home shops to work for the cameras. Its like Scott and KC on fast and loud, both set up their shops in 2010. These are not guys buying equipment and starting a business, they are going back to what they were doing before they were on the shows.

Your misguided preception of persons I look up to as fandom doesn't even closely have any touch on the bases of reality.   If i came down to a person that I admire in any was is the Petty, family and most of that admiration is due to Ma Mopar and the HEMI, an Engine that continues to Rule Drag Racing, an at one time gave the Petty Family more than 200+ wins.    Paulie just builds good looking bikes to me.  I like how he can creatively pull off a theme in a tasteful way without it screaming theme bike.
