Because Rick has a style that many people like. Very similar to JJ's style except he's smart enough to be humble about it.
Tagging Rick's name as being the primary designer and fabricator, and having Rick stand on stage with Sr. would have been enough to put them over the top.

I love on the comments on the instagram site, one user said Senior would've done better taking Rick's bike.... I agree!! Senior would've built a nice bike like that, and done the ecthing-paintwork style used to paint the David Mann bike.... TMS it would have put the bike Over the top, or Hit it out the Park, Riveted it to Victory...Etc...Etc..

So it's not a popularity contest?

Your just not a bike shop till you start selling Xmas supplies and party decorations.
What have YOU decided? This topic has already been discussed ad nauseum. Make your choice and be happy with it.
I'm just going by what you've said. First you said it was nothing more then a popularity contest but now if Rick entered his bike it would of won. So which is it?

Rick is more popular than Jr.
Do the math.

Really, what do you base this on?

Rick's bike definitely would have beaten Gas Monkey's in the build-off.... and I'd be willing to bet he'd gotten more votes than Jr too.

Yes because that bike looks good.. If Senior came with a good looking bike like that. It would've deserved to win.... Like I said it looks good nothing stands out overpowering the beauty of a simply nicely crafted bike, nothing over top, or out the park.

Agreed that is one tough looking chopper. However don't know if it has enough WOW factor to put it over Jr.'s theme integration. Beauty in the eye of the beholder I guess. And also agree Sr. pushing Jason Foole out of the mix and building a real chopper with Rick would have boosted his public image immensely. Don't get though why people complain about the popularity aspect when it figures to defeat their gladiator on the stage but then embrace it if would reverse their fortunes.

Ihave no problem with it either. I posted it as sarcasm seeing how both Sr. and Jr. fans alike (myself included) seem to poke fun at each other for that end of the business. Seems to tie in with the "popularity" argument. Now will he be ridiculed if he sells "boutique" girls apparrel like Jesse and Jr? (more sarcasm)

Which brings the question how many bikes has RPD produced and have they been featured in print or gained industry notice?
This is Easy rider April 2011
Anyone know what bike this beautiful RPD saddle is from?

I think that regardless of anything else, that Senior realizes that Rick IS his bread and butter; and probably of sufficient par with that of Junior. How short-sighted for him not to have said "Rick, we're doin' another build-off, this one's for you, your star needs to rise". By this point in time, they had known of the shows cancellation, and it would have been a graceful way out - AND - given Rick that all important boost for his own shop.
Instead, he threw his eggs in the basket attached to the door of the CAD offices of Jason Pohl and Jim Quinn...
....and the result was fourth place....

The show was cancelled well after the start of the buildoff. Bikes were supposed to be done by 11/6 first deadline, which gave builders 6 weeks. The show was cancelled 11/16.

Just an aside. I noticed that Rick congratulated Team PJD for their win. I haven't been back on the site but at the time I saw Rick's tweet no one else on the build off had done so.
