He's not wrong about the network, but I'd be more inclined to believe that he couldn't stand the idea that he wasn't the sole darling star of the network, and decided to take his toys and go home.
Unfortunately, I'm sure that we'll have to see him again, somewhere.
Of one thing I am certain, there have been no tears shed at the Discovery Network over JJ's departure....
Hmm, which network(s?) will court him????
Speed??, Spike??, History??, A&E??, USA??, TruTV??, CMT?? (Oprah may invite him to a sit-down with Sandra Bullock, and Kat Von D on the OWN Network)
Personally, I'd say that Jesse's persona jumped the shark a long time ago....
(edited because of stoopidity, "of one think", and I missed it???? I was staring straight at the screen while typing)

I don't want to sound cold-hearted.... But... I agree with Jesse in that way. The Channel has lost its way. It's like the T.L.C. of the millenia. It's lost it's man-entertainment side. It's the Al Borland of the reality T.v. channels.
Agreed, Disco has lost it's way. Additionally, you'd have to admit that the cancellation of "Dirty Jobs" was a boneheaded move of the first order. As far as Jesse James is concerned, his bad boy image has been well overplayed, and that cross between baby talk and "valley girl-ese" serves to make him even less marketable. He would best be served by building some nice bikes, cars, trucks, etc., and submitting the build stories for publication in specialty magazines. After a while, his star may rise, and he will have re-invented himself in a more palatable version.
Please Please discovery...thoroughly sanitize the toilet when you are done flushing down that turd.

I wonder if his departure has something to do with his upcoming marriage to wife #4. The late March wedding was announced last week. This current lady seems to be the closest match for him so far (billionaire, tattooed pro funny car driver with a young child)..... as long as she has no problems with chronic infidelity.
Jesse did a show about blacksmithing - I think it was on the History channel? Anyway, it was actually very good and had a minimum of his usual whining. I was pretty surprised that I really enjoyed it, despite having Jesse in virtually the whole thing.
A short clip from that show......
JJ seems to do well in educational or instructional type of positions.
He did a series of instructional metalworking videos a while back called "Metal Church" that were popular with his fans.
If a TV network would introduce a series of instructional shows hosted by various top custom auto and bike builders, it could probably be something as popular as the old AC series. (without any manufactured drama)

What I understand is that JJ himself has claimed to have created the "new biker revolution" and resurrecting the Discovery Channel single-handedly with HIS documentary Motorcycle Mania. It wasn't his idea(r), it was Original Productions who went to Discovery Channel and got the greenlight for the program's concept.
Yes, his participation helped, but he wasn't the orignator of the idea. Any bike builder with more than a wooden stick personality would have done the job as well.

I think I want a steel belted horseshoe on that piece of ceramic fixture, I wouldn't want to catch any critters from leaving my opinion. But then I don't think I could stink the joint up any worse than it already has been...
They need Mike Rowe to come in an make it all tidy and sparkling fresh again.
eventually things will get out. they started and stopped his series twice. dont know which side was to blame. he is gonna be taking alot of time and effort with west coast choppers reopening, hope he still does cars and bikes.
Jesse is one of the original outlaw bike builders, he makes enemies on both sides. His reputation almost forces him to get away from discovery. If gas monkey stays around more its because there is as much humor and about 8 minutes of actual tape for the builds. I think spike will give him a few more tries, his stuff does not get old, people love to watch him build stuff and people love to watch to complain about him on message boards.

That show was good because we actually watched what we tuned in to watch, blacksmithing. If we tune in to build hot rods, then build hot rods. I dont want to follow his crew to the tatoo shop, the restauraunt, just build hot rods. Same deal with the bikes, or build off challenges, or whatever reason we are tuning into the show. Discovery seems to have forgotten why we are tuning in to the program in the first place.

Jesse is one of the original outlaw bike builders, ...
No he isn't. He's just one of the latest. Even Denver and Mondo can't claim that title. Well before Pappy Hoel started the Sturgis Rally in 1938, there were outlaw bikers and builders modifying stock rides.
Everyone thinks that the Biker thing started after WWII when the vets came back from Europe, but that was happening back in the 19teens after the vets returned from WWI. The late 40's and 50's just put it more in the public eye. That and James Dean. Every 10-20 years the bike thing is discovered by a new generation, and they either join the ride in progress, or find their own road.
I don't deny that JJ has skills, but I don't buy into the hype that he is the be all and end all of what it means to be a biker or even a bike builder. He just got famous for building the same type of bikes that others had made famous, and had moved away from. Arlen Ness stopped making those bikes years before JJ started. Billy Lane and others have patents for newer ways of building bike parts. What patents does JJ have that have revolutionized bike building ? A furnace, power hammer, and anvil ? It's been done.

He may not be an original, but before he helped popularize chopper building on the "Motorcycle Mania" series, the general public thought everyone involved in the chopper world were rough, unmotivated, Hells Angels outlaw one percenter gangster types.

As opposed to the dick-like personality that he showed the world bikers can be ?
(You forgot about the dirty unwashed Hippies riding around on 12' stretched choppers, Easy Rider style)
Motorcycle Mania was the brainchild of the producers at Original Productions. They had done biker oriented programs before. They went to Jesse James and pitched the idea because he was a popular LA based builder, it wasn't JJ that created the "documentary", he just starred in it. And then took credit. That would be like Rick Harrison claiming to have popularized Pawn Shops by creating Pawn Stars.

Well he was earlier than the teutels who put suburbia on the map for bike builders lol.
