In the particular case of Pilgrim Studios, the producer of AC, they currently have 4 programs in first run status. Wicked Tuna, Fast and Loud, Ghost Hunters, and The Ultimate Fighter. For these shows Pilgrim makes their money from the Network directly paying for production through the show license fee. The Network in turn makes its big money directly from the fees paid by the commercial advertisers, some revenue is also generated if the Network receives a fee for cable broadcasting. As far as Pilgrims big money, that comes from syndication once a show has enough popularity and episodes in the can to sell repeats to the highest bidder based on a complex advertising formula. They probably have a dozen or more shows in syndication at any given time around the world. As far as who got the payola from product placement and featured build sponsors I don't know. I thought it was discussed at the old board that OCC had a separate fee for on air builds. I would guess Pilgrim got a taste as well but their big payoff is syndication after a show is already paid for. As for Discovery it appears the viewing public are lapping up their current crop of brown tasty spew as fast as they can spread it on our screens so i doubt they are feeling any pinch in advertising revenue.

If the producers of Ac made money from having the corporate sponsers have their products being shown being used on the program or the the theme bike advertised their product. Where is that exactly happening in the current crop of brown tasty spew coming from the braintrust running DSC right now. I believe someone before posted that AC was cancelled because they weren't getting any revenue for corporate builds, exactly WHERE are they getting it now with these crop of brain farts with the Gold, Guns, and Grease.
I just don't see with the current crop of shows you are going to have the merchantising tie-ins... I don't see picturing Fast n' Loud toys or Lebanon Levi's crew playsets, or sand box set so your young chlid can dig for gold just like the "Gold Rush" crew.
