I was taken aback by Senior's gaunt appearance. While I had noticed his weight loss during the last (final) season, this photo is remarkable in the fact that an estimated 30% of his mass has totally evaporated.
I'd imagine that the tabloids will eventually have something to say; and then there's this: could Senior's possible health condition have played a part in the cessation of the series??
While there's every possibility that this may be an intentional loss of weight, I would hasten a guess that he would not have invested all of that effort into his bodybuilding career. His physician has had to have noticed this, not to mention Beth, and other family members.
OK, I had been wondering if Senior's weight loss had been explained and I just missed it. I'm hardly an expert, but that does not look like the weight loss that would come from bodybuilding. There is no muscle bulk up. I suspect something is up.
I had noticed two years ago, during his "$50,000.00 dental scandal", that he was looking thinner, and showing signs of pallor. He was complaining about the decline in his health, and attributing it to the "tete a tete" with Junior. I postulated that because of that *special novocaine that his dentist, from Florida, had prescribed, the testosterone, or analog(s) thereof probably generated enough DHT to have grown his prostate to near-grapefruit size.
That was two years ago; what we see now could very well be considered "wasting". If I were his physician, I would have written three Rx blanks filled with labwork and imaging requests. For a large-framed man, he could easily be considered underweight, and probably between 15% and 20%.
I wish him only the best.
*my sincere thanks to the person from the original forum who originally coined the term
My former wife ran a home health agency for a time, after she decided that the day-to-day grind in the ICU was too much (after 10 years working in, then managing the unit). One of her patients, who was also under my care, was known for his "generous endowment", and the nurses would actually draw high card to see who went to catheterize him.
When "Mr. L" passed away, one of the paramedics who coded him asked the ER doc to perform a transplant, no kidding!
As far as the "steroid associated shrinkage" goes, the testis are susceptible to steroid induced size and volume reduction. The penile portion of the male anatomy is not, however, as other hormonal aspects change (spikes in estrogen during cessation or reduction of steroid intake), the penis can be subject to atrophy.
..and yes, it's pretty much permanent, even after normal hormonal levels have returned...

Gaunt is the only word I can use to accurately describe his physical state. Slimming, trimming, and shrinkage don't account for the sickly aura surrounding him. It is accutely noticable in his recent on camera appearances. Some of you may say my vision is tainted by my dislike of most things Sr but I have seen this in my life time in my own father. He was once a strong physical presence like Sr (thankfully nothing like him emotionally) who remained physically active right up to the months preceding his death. In the period 12-16 months prior he had taken on the same gaunt hollow look while being misdiagnosed as having acid reflux. He was also 63. After he deteriorated further an exam at Mayo Clinic discovered esophageal cancer beyond treatment, with his passing a short 10 days later. I hope I am wrong but am glad Sr and his family have reconciled to some degree so that is not a burden he or his sons carries any longer.

I remember the Good Dentist scandal. Would his suddenly losing access to the steroids cause this kind of weight lose and shrinkage? It doesn't look like he just went to a pre-steroid size, the man actually looks like he is continuously shrinking. ????
He's sort of hit that tipping point for age though, too, where you really start to show it. Add that to not having the steroids any more and it isn't surprising how much he's shrunk.
At least nobody doubts the stories about Senior's steroid use any more. He could have used that excuse to death, if he wanted to. "Yes, I behaved like a autistic psychopath for awhile there, but it was the steroids." Instead, his behavior got WORSE after he was busted. "No more steroids? I'll file lawsuits against my sons and let Jason take his design cues from RPG video games! I know, I'll go hang out with Donald Trump! That'll rehab my tormented image..."
Besides, from what I understand when someone stops taking massive amounts of steroids suddenly, the REAL shrinkage happens in an area of the body even a camera-ho like Senior wouldn't want photographed.
Fortunately, we have our own on-staff Urologist (talk about a full-service message board!) we can ask.
Waddaya say, Doc? Any truth to that... um, "Wee Willie" theory?
While we're on the topic; what's your opinion of "pointing and laughing" as a birth-control strategy?
He was never "busted" - his name showed up in the patient lists as having received stuff from the dentist (as reported by TMZ or something like that), but he personally was never arrested for anything. We don't even know for sure if law enforcement ever even asked him about it.
I don't recall anyone ever saying he didn't use steroids. I also think the shrinkage happens when you're doing the steroids, not when you stop. I don't know if things would ever get back to normal or if that shrinkage is permanent though - PAMD?
Everyone knows if you dont continue working out your muscle turns to fat. It is also a fact that stress causes people to carry weight. If he was on a diet plan, I am sure he would be endorsing it by now. he has a good woman, lives on a farm, she feeds him right, and he is mentally healthy, the first key to losing weight.

Even if they were it wouldn't make Sr look like that. He looks sick.

If those things are what Sr has been sitting on all these years, no wonder he was so cranky. It's nice that they found someone to pull those plugs out. Maybe that's why he seems to be deflaiting now.
Seems like the deterioration of Sr's mental faculties are also more apparent now that he is attempting to communicate through twitter. Beyond his usual misspelling and general slaughter of the English language he is double and triple posting many items and posting the same pics with different stories. He posted the same pic from last weeks "Mikey Dinner" claiming he was eating it a week later. I agree with Doc, time for a full and thorough exam.

EDIT - I moved my comment about the Pope's resignation to another thread, to keep from derailing this thread and open a discussion with people who have seen the documentary.

I wonder to what degree stress plays in his "communications irregularities"? Seriously, if I were a primary care physician, I would have written five blanks worth of testing requests, starting with a CA-125, and ending with a bone density eval. A while back (three, four years??), there were allegations that something was wrong then, and when the steroid allegations came forward, members of the Disco forum began reminiscing about Lyle Alzedo.
The main thing that puzzles me about Senior is that he almost has to be insured out the wazoo. Physical exams had to have been performed, and you can't tell me that his change in body mass wasn't noticed.
The Hair Club for Men deal probably helped his health somewhat, because they almost always place their patients on finasteride, benefiting the prostate, and slowing his hair loss. If he really did anabolics, his prostate has to be approaching the size of a baseball. Senior did state on one of the shows that he was encountering health problems, however, that may have been for reasons of placing blame on his family.
Well lets see now ................. Hmmmmmmmm ... The Pope started using twitter not too long ago, and is now retiring and retreating from society. Could this be a trend ?
