Wheeler Dealers (on Velocity channel)

Wheeler Dealers is my all-time favorite gearhead show. (Here's their Discovery UK site.) Mike finds the cars, Edd fixes 'em (in glorious detail, with lots of tips and tricks), then they sell them for a profit. It's different from any other car-oriented show, mainly because Edd is such a terrific mechanic and a genuine nice guy, and they don't try to do anything outlandish. Edd tackles every aspect, from bodywork and upholstery to rebuilding transmissions or upgrading brakes. Whatever is required. He also explains the inner workings of each part he works on, from how it's supposed to work and how to test it, to upgrading - if possible - and complete installation.

They simply restore the car to nearly-new condition and sell it. (Wait 'til you see what's involved with removing a Bentley's bumper and grill, just to swap the headlights out. Those things would make a NASA engineer shudder in fear, but the sheer quality will blow your mind.)

You can find clips on Youtube, as well.

I like the sound of some of the shows on Velocity, and would watch. But in order to get the channel I'd have to upgrade to a premium package, and Verizon already gets way too much money from me for the privilege of watching commercials interrupted by programing.

The only reason I have cable now, is that the house I bought was already wired for fios. Otherwise, I'd be on the roof fiddling with an antenna, like at my last house.

The thing that gets me on that show is when they calculate the profits, they never factor in Edd's labor costs. All those hours of labor are not worth anything?
